How This Service Works

This site is a free referral service, not a roofing contractor. It does no roofing work, offers no prices of its own and never signs a contract with you. Your request goes to one independent roofer in the area, which gives the estimate and does any work you hire it for.

The money runs one way. The roofing company pays this site for each referral it receives. You never pay the site, and you never receive anything from the site or the roofer for making a request.

Four Steps to an Estimate

  1. You reach out. Use the form or call (612) 555-0177 with your address and a few words about the roof.
  2. The request is passed on. It goes to a single independent local roofer, the only company that sees your details.
  3. The roofer inspects and prices the job. Expect a visit and a written estimate. Many roofers give estimates at no charge; ask the roofer.
  4. The choice stays yours. Hire the roofer, ask for changes, get another bid or do nothing at all.

What to Ask the Roofer

With limited exceptions, Minnesota requires anyone contracting for residential roofing to hold a Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) residential roofer, remodeler or building contractor license. Before you sign, check these points yourself.

  • The DLI license. Search the company's name on the DLI license lookup at dli.mn.gov. DLI warns that a number beginning with "IR" is a registration, not a license.
  • Insurance on paper. Ask for proof of liability insurance, plus workers' comp if the company has employees on your roof.
  • A detailed written contract. It should list the materials and brands, the permit, start and finish dates, how change orders work, the payment schedule and cleanup.
  • Both warranties in writing. Ask for the manufacturer's warranty and the roofer's labor warranty as documents, not promises.
  • A fixed Minnesota address. Ask for a permanent business address and a few local references.
  • Who pulls the permit. Every city this site covers requires a permit to re-roof. The roofer should pull it.
  • The ice barrier and ventilation. Ask how the roofer will handle the ice-and-water barrier at the eaves and the airflow through your attic.
  • How payment works. Walk away from a roofer who wants cash only, or the whole price up front. DLI also suggests you consider more than one written bid.

The Fine Print, Plainly

Some things this site will never do. It won't offer to pay, waive or rebate an insurance deductible, and it won't reward you for an inspection, a claim or a referral; under Minnesota law, roofers can't do those things either. It won't read your policy, deal with your adjuster or file a claim for you. A roofer can document storm damage and write an estimate, but the claim stays between you and your insurer, or a licensed public adjuster or attorney you hire.

The site never promises a price or vouches for a roofer on your behalf. The referral marketing disclosure sets out the arrangement in full.
